"I didn't wake up one morning and think, "I'm funny and the world needs to know it," says the Perth-raised ("that's funny in itself") Mc Manus, 26. Instead, he and some friends wandered into stand-up to utilise the material they unearthed in the idle hours; his spent working a day shift at a bottle shop. Ponders Mc Manus: "Who buys booze during the day?" Two years into a fine arts degree, he took his act to Melbourne. A computer game and pro-wrestling junkie (yes, he sighs, "I know it's fake"), Mc Manus says he doesn't have a particular style, believeing he and his material are constantly evolving. As for subject matter, Mc Manus (Who last year hosted his own TV show, Rove, on Nine) believes there are no sacred cows. "If [comedy is] delivered in the right way, it usually works." And if it does work, well, there's nothing like it. "Some gigs are electric", he says. "The laughs get into your blood. People always want to laugh. Comedy will never disappear."
