Australias' Funniest Home Video Show is one of the countries most popular programs. Director, Darryl Holden has dedicated his life to capturing mishaps on video tape. On the set of his latest production, he took time out to talk to us... ************** DARRYL : Yeh, I started making Australia's Funniest Home Videos' cause I was disillusioned. Yeh, disillusioned with what I was seeing at the local cinemas. There's no art in film making these days, no passion. What I want to see is people falling over...falling off swings...getting hit in the nuts...that's what I want to see. That's what the people at home want to see... **************** DARRYL : (to an editor in the editing suite) Oh, you might want to check the chorome levels on this one hey, I wasn't quite happy last time...I might just (...he tries to touch a button...) EDITOR : Oh look, F**K OFF !!! DARRYL : (walking off) I'll see you at the canteen mate... ********************* DARYL : Yeah, 1994 was a tough year, yeah I lost to the 2 year old whacking the golfball into his granddads nuts. It was a pretty tough video. That was my first year. My first video and you can't get gold straight away you know. A lot of people forget that Steven Speilberg made "Ghostbusters 2" before he made "Starwars"...oh yeah, people forget that. ********************** DARYL : ( to a guy positioning a light in the background) Actually Scottie, whack that light over there thanks mate... SCOTTIE : F**K OFF !!! DARRYL : Yeah, actually that will be fine...........yeah, there's a real vibe on my latest production, "Swing Twins". You know, I get the feeling that the crew just sense we're making some history, some magic history that is...can somebody write that down ?....Magic History...Sure we've all seen kids falling over, but how many times I ask you have you seen a set of twins falling off a set of swings simultaneously at the same time ? We couldn't actually get some identical twins...couldn't find them...but I think you can see the resemblence (the camera cuts to the twins and ones black, and ones white...) We're working on a whole new level here. yeah. ************************ DARRYL : (getting massage from blonde bimbo looking girl Beverly Sanchez) That's nice. You've got it. You've got it. *********************** BEVERLY : I was working as a waitress in a cocktail bar when Darryl came in and said "I may not be able to make you a star, but a minor celebrity can make $ 200 a night on the theatre restuarant scene." ************************* DARRYL : People know the skill that's involved when you're trying to make opportunities for yourself in the home video industry. I mean theres option all around, it's eye for detail. You've got to see the opportunities...eye for detail very important. I mean, you can miss lots of opportunities if you havn't got that eye for detail (at this point a cyclist - presumably DAVE stacks it right behind him)...That wasn't in shot was it? ************************* JACK MC QUEEN : There was a time when I was the biggest name in actors in the home video industry. Some of my great, great videos include : man gets kicked in the nuts by a small child, man gets nuts run over by a tractor and man gets headbutted in the nuts by a belligerent giraffe, which is still my best work today... ***************************** DARRYL : (to Jack) You've got to ask yourself, what's your motivation ? What would you do in this situation okay ? ****************************** JACK MC QUEEN : Daryl came up to me and he said..."I've got two words...swing twins..." and I just went.................I'm sorry, I don't understand, you're going to have to give me some more words...So he said two kids, falling off swings... *************************** BEVERLY : There's been a lot of talk of the casting couch of "Australia's Funniest Home Videos", and it's simply not true. I've known Darryl for six weeks now, and he's been nothing but a professional, treats everybody with respect, that's what I really like about him... DARRYL : Great work yesterday, Sweet Cheeks...fantastic !" ************************* The following day, actress Beverly Sanchez pressed sexual harassment charges against Darryl Holden. The arrest in which Holden recieved several blows to the groin was caught on video by Mary Ann Davies of Parramatta.
