Call Girls - 30/04/06 @ Melbourne Town Hall - by epodJanelle Koenig & Vanessa Bennett star in this (supposedly) comic play, "Call Girls". Spending a lot of my life working in call centres, I arrived at this show with high expectations, thinking how interesting, amusing and funny this show would be. Unfortunately, I was left disappointed. This show is about the life of the two girls in a call centre. The set of this show is a table, with the two actresses sitting side by side for most of the show in their call centre cubicles. Whilst the show is well acted by Janelle and Vanessa, there wasn't enough humour or interesting content within it to keep my attention. There were a few funny moments, but they were few and far between. The highlight of this show for me - other than when it ended - was when the girls played "race around the world". This is when they made their telemarketing calls in whatever language their collegue requested them to. The pretence for this show was very interesting, but it just failed to deliver. However, I believe that with the strong performances of each of the stars of this show, that if this play was given a re-working under some different direction, it could be a hit. For the moment though, I would not recommend it. |
