FROM CLUB LIFE TO THE ROCK SPOTLIGHT - BY JEFF APTER - ROLLING STONE YEARBOOK 2000

You just know that when eight year old kids recognise you in the street that your career is moving on up. Such is the case with Sydney based Simon Lewicki (aka Groove Terminator), who emerged from relative DJ obscurity during 2000 with his deadly debut album, "Roadkill". An ARIA nomination for Best Male Artist - a DJ the king of pop? - capped off a year that saw him put a little rockin' grunt into dance music. And he got to work with one of his heroes, Kool Keith, on the single "You Can't See". How cool is that?

What's the best thing that happened to you in the last year?
Getting to live out some long held dreams - like programming Rage !

What are you most proud of from the last year?
Finally getting my album out and having a record in the UK Top 40 under an alias.

Most disappointing event of 2000?
Not meeting the Backstreet Boys. No, really.

What are your plans for 2001?
To do another album and get my drivers liscence.

What is the worst thing that happened to you last year?
My loungeroom got flooded. But musically it's all good.

The oddest purchase you've made in the last year?
Carpet deodoriser for said flooded lounge room.

What is your one secret fantasy for 2001?
If I told, it wouldn't be a secret now would it?

What one thing do you plan to change next year?
Sampling laws - or an easier thing to change is the way I write tunes.

What was the best thing you saw last year?
The film Snatch.
