One of the best hip hop tracks of the year (according to us) has arrived from a rather unlikely quarter. More accustomed to packed hands in the air dancefloors, Groove Terminator has returned to his hip hop roots with a collaboration with one of the weirdest and greatest MCs of all time - Kool Keith - on the single "You Can't See". "With Kool Keith, we've got the same publishers and they just gave me a list of potential people I could work with. When I saw his name I was just, 'oh my god'. We sent him a GT pack - obviously he never would have heard of me - and initially I was just going to sample some of his stuff, like what Liam does with the Prodigy, and I just ended up writing a whole piece of music around one of the vocals and said I wanted to use that. He was really cool with it, gave me the go ahead. I mean I haven't even spoken to him, we just exchanged some DAT tapes and Post-It notes and that's about it. That's how it is these days." And who are some of your favourite hip hop heroes? And finally, if you were stranded on the proverbial desert island what five hip hop albums would you like to comfort you? |
