Kehau Jackson is Australia’s funniest Hawaiian comedian. Ok, so she’s Australia’s only Hawaiian comedian. But she’s still funny.
Kehau is a transplanted Hawaiian married to an Aussie. She considers herself a ‘late bloomer’ having started comedy in her 40’s, after divorce, child and elder care were done.
Her humour ranges from topical ("The immigration minister won’t let Snoop Dogg into the country because he’s a convicted criminal, a convict. The Aboriginals are slapping themselves. 'Why didn’t we think of that? Last time we let convicts in, all hell broke loose.') to personal ("I'm on another diet. Ever notice when you're fat, and you go on a diet, the ones who give you the most diet advice are other fat people? 'You just need to drink more water, walk a couple extra miles, and eat more fruit and veg' Yeah, 'cause I can see that’s working a treat for you, Moby.")
Since 2002 Kehau has been living and working in Adelaide, South Australia after starting her comedy career in her home town, Honolulu. Two days after arriving, she was checking out the local comedy clubs. Shortly thereafter she began making the rounds, eventually moving up from open mic nights in Adelaide to becoming a regular feature performer in cities throughout Australia.
Kehau’s become a familiar name through her appearances on the Comedy Channel’s “Stand Up Australia” and as a regular guest panellist as one of “Goers’ Gals” on Adelaide’s ABC radio.
In 2007, Kehau was a founding member of “Titters!” a popular showcase for female comics premiering at the Adelaide Fringe Festival. “Titters!” garnered four star reviews, a sold out season, and the coveted “People’s Choice” award at the festival’s end. It followed that with another sell out season at the 2008 Adelaide Fringe and was one of only 3 shows out of the 450+ in the Fringe to be nominated for a Fringe Rave award (formerly People’s Choice).
