  • Jessie's recommendation for attending Vienna from Dr Murray:

I would like to wholeheartedly recommend Seranna for a scholarship to attend the Vienna AIDS Conference 2010 and to present her paper on unfair and unsafe registration practices in the Northern Territory. I have known Seranna for two years as an extremely hard working peer educator who has the trust and rapport of her fellow sex workers, as well as being a very talented and forceful public speaker. She is very strongly motivated by a human rights approach and speaks with passion and humour about the issues faced by sex workers.

As an up and coming activist from a remote area, Seranna would benefit greatly from attending this international conference and networking with experts and activists from all research fields and parts of the world. She is also a talented film-maker with short videos and a documentary on sex work in India already to her credit. She will make the most of her opportunities in Vienna by also filming and interviewing. Seranna’s attendance and experience at the conference will also benefit the rest of us here at NTAHC through raising our international profile, and when Seranna presents her observations, and hopefully her footage, back in Darwin.

Thankyou very much for your kind attention and assistance for Seranna,
    Yours truly, Dr Murray.

  • Whore of the Year nominations 2009:

I'm always in awe of every single person involved in Scarlet, but this year I've been particularly inspired by Seranna. Amongst other things...

    - She has two Facebook profiles, where almost EVERY SINGLE DAY she posts links to sexual and reproductive health information.

    - She routinely discusses and demystifies sex work on those Facebook pages, patiently explaining the issues to her hundreds of non-sex working Facebook 'friends'.

    - She does a (weekly?) radio segment on sex and sexual health in NT, taking advantage of every opportunity to raise sex worker issues and address whore-stigma while she's at it.

    - She's been filming a doco that (fingers crossed) will take sex worker issues to a mainstream audience.

    - She's travelled all over the country and the world, at her own expense, to give sex workers the chance to have their voices heard in that doco.

    - She's commander in chief of a massive anti-registration revolt in NT

    - She's devised and run a number of fabulous sex worker community-building events this year

    - She performs at various mainstream events, photo shoots, rallies, etc giving a 'human face' to sex workers with her loud and proud alter-ego Jessie Abraham.

    - She is vivacious, warm, passionate and sparkly and she lights up the whole room when she walks into it.

  • Whore of the Year nominations 2008:
Jessie Abraham – for brining comedy into whore politics and whore politics into comedy, for being out and proud and most of all visible and loud at every possible event she get herself too, for being the supreme media whore that she is.

  • Jessie. I think you are gorgeous. Wish I was in Darwin so I could meet with you. Keep doing what you do. You make the world a better place in so many ways. Your activism, attitude AND your job all add so much to the state of this country. I love you and I mean that in a respectful tone of admiration way, not a creepy stalker way :-). Just had to send you this note. Hope it makes you smile this Valentines Day. xxx

  • Good on ya love. your amazing!! xx

  • I may not know Jessie personally but I am extremely proud to know that there are still young women out there demanding the respect and rights that their sisters deserve!

  • Hi Jessie :) Thanks for your message. My support is always behind amazing people like you! You do such a fantastic job (and a lot of it with very little thanks no doubt). You remind me of myself when i was younger and still trail blazing :) (I'm only 38 now, but have seen enough bad stuff to make me feel 108, and sadly I lost my fire). I hope you can hang onto your 'fire' and keep trail blazing. x0x

  • Jessie, I think you are a very special person and I really admire what you are doing. You are not cursed in any way and just need to keep the belief in what you are doing. I am a healer and can sometimes sense people and believe you are something special. So look after yourself girl and from time to time I will send u some healing. Love Donal xx

  • Hey, Just wanted to say congrats on the movie -- I think it's absolutely brilliant -- all the power to you for embarking on such a quest! Don't know if you are aware but inbetween my working as a sex worker I'm now teaching a couple of classes in Cultural Studies. With your permission, I would love to be able to show the students your movie of sex work/ers in India. Not only would it be totally appropriate for the course but I think it would challenge some of the student's idea's regarding sex work/ers. I've been trying to find a video that would have this type of impact as they actually have two tutorials that are solely related to sex work and numerous that focus on sex, sexuality and the body. If you are prepared to grant me your permission to show this video to them I would really appreciate it. Thanks for your help and, again, congrats on the movie. You look fantastic on it & it really has very important information to provide to the rest of the world...I really appreciate that you were prepared to put yourself out there to do it! Well Done.

  • WOW girl....excellent work...you should be extremely proud..this is what peer education in the sex industry & beyond is all about...more ladies should be like yourself...& doing it in a foreign country is totally amazing...

  • SWOP in Sydney runs Harm Minimisation for Sex Industry Workers...which covers similar topics...more ladies should be out doing exactly what u r achieving...brilliant work Jess..
