Judith Lucy interview from Attitude magazine - by Emily Hopkins

Describe yourself and your work in 30 words.

I can't really describe myself and my work in thirty words - it feels like I'm writing an ad for the personals. Having said that though, I am single and I do enjoy bushwalking.

What makes you think you're funny?

I think it runs in the family, my grandfather thinks he's hilarious. Mind you, he also recently mistook a four and twenty pie for one of his grandchildren.

Do you do comedy for love or money?

Oh money - no question.

How do you prefer your audiences?

Alive is always good and I find that humans are generally more responsive than, say ducks.

Does it hurt when they don't laugh? Where?

Well I would say that it hurts my dignity but I pretty much threw that out the window the night I appeared on stage wearing a wetsuit and pointy rubber ears.

Is sexual innuendo in comedy losing its appeal or is your work becoming more crass to get laughs?

Sure, why not? I'm doing my latest show topless with my breasts painted to look like cute little woodland creatures.

What makes you laugh?

Well, like everyone, I enjoy a good accident - not the ones that result in death obviously, just hospitalisation or a bit of permanent scarring.

So, why did the chicken cross the road?

I don't know. I'm still stuggling to work out why you'd need to see footprints in your butter to work out that there was an elephant in your fridge.

Please finish this sentence : "Adelaide, city of..."

"...buildings?"

How would you like Adelaide audiences to remember you?

I'd like them to remember me in a gee she was so funny I don't know why we didn't book to see every show and why we didn't bring everyone we know including Uncle Reg even though he can't see or hear' kind of way.
