Killeen claims to be the least well-known of our 'good sorts'. Yet in Australian media she is like the airwaves that carry her voice - ubiquitous, even if not always visible. Killeen has written and performed for every radio station from Radio National to Triple J, and appeared on TV shows ranging from the Channel Nine "Super Debates" to Network 10's "Beauty and the Beast". She is now hostin Network 10's "Big Brother" and writing a series of four books called "Hot Buns and Ophelia (after getting a bloke, we think "Hot Buns and Ophelia" is currently shipwrecked.) Killeen is a writer, a comic, a mum and self-confessed 'devastating romantic'. When are you happiest? When I'm involved in a fabulous kiss, or when I eat mango without dripping it all over my clothes. When was the last time you were unhappy? On my birthday, because the three most important people in my life forgot, despite repeated reminders from me. That was my son Zeke, who's 12, my daughter Eppie, 10, and a friend I'd really been helping at the time. What are the qualities you most admire in a woman? Compassion and generosity. Mind you, there are several qualities I don't like, especially relentless emotional indulgence. What are the qualities you most admire in a man? Really good kissing, the ability to buy the perfect mango and simplicity of thought. What cheeses you off? I don't like boring people. What do you like about yourself My bravery. I'm quite willing to go out even on a bad hair day. What, if anything, would you change about yourself? I'd like to stop being an emotional twit and I'd like to try to control things a little less. I'm a devastating romantic, but I like to write the script as well as live it. As a child what did you want to be? I recently found a note that I wrote when I was about 11 that said, 'When I grow up I want to write and do funny voices', and that's what I do. I just wish I'd written 'I want to be really, really, really rich with dead straight hair, and never need to breathe in whenever I'm in a bikini. As an adult what do you want to achieve? I think I'm on the right path. I'd like to be more trusting of fate. What has been your greatest achievement? My children and the fabulous pink tiles that I selected for the kitchen. What inspires you? Getting older and realising that I'm going to die What depresses you? That it took me so long to realise the above. And I get very upset by other people not wanting to be the greatest that they can be. I get completely astounded at how some people will accept miniature versions of themselves. What are you afraid of? Boating shoes and docksiders. And I'm also afraid of not ever really being who I can be. What don't you understand? I find my children's homework quite difficult. What would you never do? Bungee jump...topless. What do you wish you did more of? Dance. What's the riskiest thing you've ever done? I once wore a pastel-pink shirt with a white-fur collar, and I have to say it's a risk I won't take again because it failed. People kept referring to me as Pinky Spice. (I was on national TV at the time.) What would you hate to lose? My children and my computer. Name five people you'd love to have over for dinner Heath Ledger, Russell Crowe, Micheal Jordan, one (ugly) prostitute, and Clive James. I'd like to dance at my dinner. What do you most dislike about your appearance? Well, I have to put my bosoms on in the morning, so maybe that. Is writing a release or a neck brace? Writing would be a release if you got paid a huge amount of money which allowed you to buy the time to enjoy it. It's a delight when you realise you can write, but the stress that we impose on ourselves to meet deadlines is a neck brace. Who is Sydney's biggest 'sort'? Ian Roberts, isn't he? What would you change about Sydney? The dog poo in inner-city streets - it really gives me the sh*ts. I do find it ironic in the inner city that someone can shoot up in your street and they don't get busted, but if your car's parked for more than an hour you get fined. Where have you never been, but would love to go to in Sydney? I'd like to live in the Aquarium - I think that'd be nice. |
