Greg Fleet - Attitude magazine - interview by Emily Hopkins

Legendary comedian Greg Fleet teams up with fellow Melbourne dweller Alan Brough to perform "Interogation" for the 2000 Adelaide Fringe. Fleety is well known for his appearances on ABC's "Big Gig", "Good News Week", and "O'Loghlin On a Saturday Night", "Triple J's Ladies Lounge", and various hit solo shows locally and overseas. Fleety's life gets torn to shreds in the hilariously X-Files-esque "Interrogation"

1. Describe yourself and your work in 30 words.

Fun. My job is to hang around and make people laugh, just like most people did when they were kids. Except my wage is better now.

2. What makes you think you're funny?

People laughing. If people cry during a joke you know you've gone askew - it has happened!

3. Do you do comedy for love or money?

I do it for 'loney'. I wouldn't do it if it didn't pay. If I didn't love it I wouldn't set foot on stage.

4. How do you prefer your audiences?

Attentive, trusting, and Nigerian.

5. Does it hurt when they don't laugh? Where?

Yes - it depends where the gig is - sometimes it hurts at the Prince Patrick in Collingwood, sometimes at the Espy in St Kilda.

6. Is sexual innuedo in comedy losing its appeal or is your work becoming more crass to get laughs?

That was two questions. And what a lovely PAIR they were.

7. What makes you laugh?

Innocent humour. Real humour. Things people don't mean to be funny but are.

8. So, why did the chicken cross the road?

Because the person who wrote the joke shouted at it.

9. Please finish this sentence: "Adelaide, city of..."

...shallow bush graves.

10. How would you like Adelaide audiences to remember you?

Adelaide audiences are usually great. They're loyal and I hope they remember me by accessing their frontal lobes.
